Pages in this set

This is our round, cheerful yellow paper duck, with six wardrobes to print and cut out. Each wardrobe is one PDF with two pages: the duck and the first outfits on page 1, more clothes on page 2. Everything has fold-over white tabs, so there’s no glue and the outfits come off again in a second. Each wardrobe also has a black-and-white version: the same pages as line art, for kids who want to color the clothes themselves.

The six wardrobes

Play Day has overalls, hoodies, a sailor top, a cap and an aviator hat with goggles. School & Play brings a school uniform, a cow-print romper and gingham overalls with little duck patches. Cozy Everyday has pajamas, a toggle coat and pinafores. Summer comes with a swimsuit, sundresses, a straw hat and a striped tote, Autumn with a trench coat, acorn sweaters, a pompom beanie and a scarf, and Winter with puffer and fleece coats, a snowsuit and a snowflake hat. That’s over fifty outfits and more than a dozen hats, bows and bags.

How to make the paper duck

  1. Print both pages of a wardrobe at 100% (“actual size”) on Letter or A4 — cardstock for page 1 if you have it.
  2. Cut out the duck, then the clothes along their outline. Keep the white tabs.
  3. Dress the duck: lay an outfit on top and fold the tabs behind the duck’s sides and shoulders.
  4. Store the clothes in an envelope or a zip bag with the duck so nothing goes missing.

The duck is about 12–13 cm (5 inches) tall, which suits small hands and fits in a pocket.

Ideas for playing

Use the wardrobes through the year: Summer in July, School & Play for the first week of school, Autumn and Winter when the weather turns. Ask kids to dress the duck for the weather outside, plan a week of outfits, or put on a fashion show with a cardboard runway. Several kids with the same wardrobe can swap pieces and compare looks.

Questions

Is there a black and white version?

Yes. Every wardrobe page has a second download with the same duck and clothes as black-and-white line art. Print it on plain paper, color the outfits, then cut and dress the duck as usual. It also saves color ink.

Is the yellow duck the same size in every wardrobe?

Close to it. Each wardrobe has its own duck and the clothes are drawn for that duck, so they always fit; the ducks differ only slightly, and most clothes swap between sets.

What paper works best?

Cardstock (65 lb / 176 gsm) for page 1 keeps the duck stiff. Regular printer paper is fine for the clothes. No cardstock? Glue the duck onto cereal-box card before cutting.

What age is this for?

Kids from about 4 can dress the duck; cutting the clothes with their tabs is easier from 6. Younger kids enjoy it most when a grown-up cuts and they choose the outfits.

Can I print these for my classroom?

Yes — free for home and classroom use. Please share the link to this page rather than the PDF, and do not sell the printouts.
