Pages in this set

This is the first part of Garden to Jar, our coloring book about a gardener kitty who grows food from seed to jar. In Part 1 the kitty plans the garden on paper, rakes the raised beds, plants seedlings, sows seeds in neat rows, waters the first sprouts and ties the young tomato plants to stakes. Six calm, sunny pages full of flowers, tools and little garden helpers — a bird, a snail and a butterfly.

A garden lesson in six pages

The pages follow the real order of starting a vegetable garden, so they work as a simple sequencing activity: plan, prepare the soil, plant, sow, water, support. The thick outlines and big shapes suit young kids, and the flowers, fences and seed packets give older kids lots to color.

Ideas for using these pages

  • Spring planting: color a page, then plant a real seed in a cup on the windowsill.
  • Sequencing: mix the six pages and ask kids to put the steps in order.
  • Garden club or class: pair each page with a short talk — what does a rake do, why do plants need stakes?

Each page has its own download. Complete Part 1 has the cover and all six pages in one file.

Keep following the garden

In Part 2 · Harvest Day the garden grows and the kitty picks carrots, berries, apples and pears. In Part 3 · Into the Jar the harvest becomes jam and pickles.
